Abstract

The objective of this research is to study the acid-base characteristics of the surface of red iron oxide pigment particles produced by different manufacturers.
The surface characteristics of red iron oxide pigment particles from various manufacturers, including a pigment derived from metallurgical waste, were investigated. The acid-base properties (ABP) of the pigment surfaces were thoroughly examined. The stability of red iron oxide pigments in different media with varying polarity was studied. It was demonstrated that the pigment derived from metallurgical waste does not exhibit distinct acid-base properties and presents particular interest for its further application in water-borne coating materials formulations.

Abstract

The review is devoted to the issues of resistance of polymer coatings to the formation of impurities, stains and changes in their original color on their surface, which is one of the key indicators of the operational efficiency of paint coatings. The mechanisms of the formation of stains and impurities are generalized and analyzed. Standards for assessing contamination on the surface of coatings are given. The factors influencing the resistance to contamination, including film-forming substances, additives, as well as the volume concentration of pigments, surface morphology, etc. are considered.

Abstract

The works on creation of acrylic-containing UV-curing compositions have been studied. The basic formulation of UV-curing epoxy acrylate composition based on 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) has been developed. The studies on physical, chemical and protective properties of coatings created on the basis of UV-curing HEMA-modified epoxy acrylates have been conducted. The optimum content of HEMA in UV-curing epoxy acrylate composition has been established in order to obtain effective protective and operational properties of coatings.

Abstract

New hybrid polymatrix epoxy-polyurethane compositions have been synthesized by simultaneously using two binders of different natures — diane epoxy resin and polyurethane quasi-prepolymer Gekkon-P100 based on aromatic isocyanates, and using a cationic hardener — a boron trifluoride-ether complex mixed with trichloropropyl phosphate and diethylene glycol. The results of a study of the physico-mechanical and electrophysical properties of the obtained coatings, both cold and hot curing, depending on the ratio of the epoxy and polyurethane components and the amount of hardener are presented.

CORROSION PROTECTION

Abstract

The nature of the surface of particles of anticorrosive pigments (zinc phosphate and zinc oxide) was studied. The presence and concentration of acidic and basic centers on the surface of pigment particles was established. It is shown that the presence of hard core centers and soft and hard acid centers prevails on the surface of phosphate and zinc oxide particles. The adsorption and dispersing ability of surfactants of various types to phosphate and zinc oxide was studied. The types of surfactants with the best dispersing ability with respect to phosphate and zinc oxide was identified, depending on the chemical nature of the surfactant and the surface of the pigment particles.
